If you want a delicious easy to make plant based burger then this is the one for you! Smoky and so flavorful you'll definitely won't miss the meat! And it's so filling too!
Ingredients
2 (15.5 oz.) cans Organic Black Beans (drained)
1 tsp Chili Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Liquid Smoke
3-4 Scallions, green and white part (sliced)
1/2 cup Rolled Oats or Cooked Brown Rice
Coconut Oil or oil to fry the burgers
Instructions
Add to a food processor the drained black beans, oats, chili powder, salt and liquid smoke; pulse a few times until you get a coarse mixture, but not mushy. You want to see some bean pieces in the mix.
Pour bean mixture into a large bowl and fold in the scallions and oats until combined. At this point taste the bean mixture and see if it needs more salt. If you like you also can add other seasonings of choice like hot sauce, fresh oregano, fresh cilantro or just leave them as is.
Form 4 patties with the bean mixture. Add to a large skillet about 2-3 tablespoons of oil then turn on the burner to medium heat. Place the bean burgers in the skillet and cook until browned. Flip the burgers over and cover with a lid so the burgers can heat through in the center. Cook on this side until browned then remove from the skillet.
Serve the burgers on toasted hamburger buns, lettuce, cheese, ketchup or your favorite toppings. Enjoy!
Note: You can prep these burgers and store in an airtight container to cook for later. They can also be frozen, just place parchment or wax paper between each burger so they won't stick together, then place in a freezer bag. Should keep well for about a month.
